Can you call your credit card company and try to get them to lower your APR?

Do they usually say yes? I%26#039;m a new college graduate and although I just got a job, it%26#039;s entry level and isn%26#039;t big money. I have racked up a lot of debt to finance my education and cost of living. I have two credit cards with a 0% intro rate, so that%26#039;s nice, but the other card is like 13%. I have an excellent credit score and have been with that company for like 4 years. Do you think they%26#039;d help me out? Maybe lower it to like 9%? I could threaten to transfer and cancel the card... do threats work?

Be diplomatic. Calll and say, %26quot;I like to use your card, but the APR is 12%, and I%26#039;ve received an offer from XXX bank and their APR is11 1/2 %.

Can you match that?%26quot;

-You%26#039;re negotiating, not threatening. .Threats can backfire.

If you have any negative history with the company, odds are, no lower rates. You can ask, but understand credit card companies are in the business to make money, not loose. Report It

Tell them you got a better APR somewhere and would like to see what they can offer to save you the hastle of opening a new account. They will do something.

Maybe you can convince one of the 0% cards to let you do a balance transfer from the 13% card. You other idea of requesting that the 13% be lowered to 9% might work too. Everything in life is negoitiable, especially when different prices are offered to different customers.
