Student loans, Credit cards, and other debts?

I wanted to get your horror stories regarding debt. I know that studen loans, credit cards, and car payments can put you in a real bad spot.

For me, I pay $1,000 for rent, $400 car payment, $400 student loans, $300 for credit cards.

Its hard enough to get by especially in California where I live. Anyways, does anybody care to share their debt horror stories?

Student loans, Credit cards, and other debts?

How about a $17,000 gambling debt? All were credit card cash advances (4 cards). I have been paying it off since May 2005 and have a little over $4,000 remaining. My last payment will be next December.

Student loans, Credit cards, and other debts?

hey, well my financial situation kinda sucks too. I%26#039;m 27, and I recently moved out of my parent%26#039;s house. I live in New York, so it%26#039;s expensive here as well.

Rent is $600, I share rent with my boyfriend, he pays $800. $300 car pymt, $200 for car insurance, $63 cell phone bill, and I also pay around $400 for credit cards.

That barely leaves me with money to save, which in turn causes me to charge a lot of groceries and gas on my credit card.

I%26#039;m also in college so my school loan payments are on hold, however I do worry about paying them. So there you go, that%26#039;s my debt horror story.

Student loans, Credit cards, and other debts?

I already asked the question for people to tell me their student loan horror stories and only a couple people complained. I%26#039;m on govt benefits and my student loans are $175 per month (the most they can take) plus their fees, and for the last 23 years they tell me they have been taking out only the interest. By the way the payments are going I suspect they will be taking out another 23 years. When I took out that $8,000 for TWO years of college I never thought they would be collecting on them 46 years or more and that no one would help me solve that. I have come to the conclusion that there is fraud or collusion there somewhere in that I understood that when you buy a house you pay twice for it, but for student loans you can pay 3 or 4 times on a student loan. In addition, it seems wrong to me that student loans should be allowed to be taken from SS or SSdisability benefits since it%26#039;s like the government paying the government but using my good name. Seems to me that there%26#039;s something dishonest going on when the government pays the government and then tells the public that student loan debt is going down because it%26#039;s being paid. It%26#039;s not being paid in the case of benefits, it%26#039;s merely changing government accounts. Anyway, I honestly don%26#039;t know how people got out loans for 4, 6 or more years and still intend to pay that off, or have paid that off.

Where credit cards are concerned, I understand the problem with those are the interest usury laws that congress approved years ago, and that%26#039;s how the banks make their money. Since the banks are having economy tough times too and need their money, I suspect the usury laws will never be changed

The thing that I see that%26#039;s out of line for you is the rent, but maybe your income is commensurate to what you pay for rent. Can you get an efficiency apartment?

Your rent and car payments are double what they are here. When your car payments are high then so are your insurance rates. Do you fix your own car? Then get an older model and fix it and keep it going by yourself.

A couple of the really bad items I%26#039;ve encountered that just throws money out the window is the computer and a cell phone. If you can eliminate the cell phone, and don%26#039;t have much on your computer so you don%26#039;t need all the security then that helps a lot. If you have a cell phone you can change it to only a 911 cell.
