Rule #1: Stay away from companies that promise to reduce your debt by thousands of dollars. It will hurt your credit. Look into finance counselors that can look at your income, expenses and debt and help you establish a plan and stick to it. Debt consolidation is a good move in that it won%26#039;t hurt your credit. The risk is that you will have to pay an additional couple thousand dollars over the years for the convenience of the consolidation. Again, credit/finance counselors are your best bet right now.

Based upon where you say you are, I%26#039;d recommend that you start with credit counseling. I believe they may be able to help you develop better debt consolidation skills.

Which ever way you decide to go, be rigorous with your payments but, take it easy on yourself, ok?

I hate to say but credit counseling is veiwed worse then bankruptcy by most lenders.

There ISN%26#039;T a difference between debt and credit councelling, one just SOUNDS better than the other. If you need a good debt consolidation program go to www.trinitycredit.org I am not someone who works for these people I am on their debt councelling program and it has worked GREAT for me, My husband and I owed $12,000 in credit card debt and our minimum payments became too much for us to handle. Each of the three credit cards was asking more than $400 a piece, and now we pay our debt management $300 a month, it takes about 6 years to get off the program and once you become a part of this program your credit card accounts will become closed accounts (meaning you can%26#039;t use them to rack up more debt). We have been on the program for 2 and a half years and because we are in SO much better a place than we were back when we started the program we are able to make larger payments than the program requires and we SHOULD be off the program by August THIS year!!! By the way are you in any way affiliated with the military? If so does your credit card company know this? If not letting them know will lower your interest rates, (you%26#039;ll have to send proper documentation to prove it) also if you ever get deployed let your credit card companies know they have to give you and even LOWER interest rate. If you%26#039;re not associated with the military sorry. I%26#039;ve been where you are, feeling hopeless and lost and overwhelmed, go to the website I gave you I guarentee you won%26#039;t be sorry those people are GREAT! They don%26#039;t make you feel stupid for getting yourself into the problem you%26#039;re in.
