My husband owes a chase credit card and i just checked my credit report and they have it on mine as an authorized user. Is this legal?

I live in N.Y. Also I would like to settle with this company before it goes to collections do i send them a letter or call them.

I had the same problem with my husbands Wells Fargo CC. They still to this day insist that by being an authorized user, regardless of whether you are married or not, they are able to report to your credit report also. My problem was that they wouldn%26#039;t discuss the account with me because I was only an authorized user, but they could post it in my credit report. Good luck....I would ask for a settlement amount and make payment arrangements before it goes to collections...then ya%26#039;ll are both screwed.

If you are an authorized user on the card then yes they can report it to your credit report...however as of September 2007 that information is no longer included in the calculation of your credit SCORE.

If you are not an authorized user and your husband says he has not added you as an authorized user then they should not be reporting to your credit report...

As an authorized user they can report to your credit report but you can have it removed. What you have to do is have your husband call the credit card company and remove your name as authorized user. Then he needs to get a letter from Chase saying either you are not an authorized user or your name has been removed from the card. Then you call the credit bureaus and find out where to send it to have that information removed from your report. It is a lot of work but if it is worth it to you then I would do it.
