I used to work for a company where they issued me a company card with my name on it for business use. I used the card to purchase authorized office supplies/ stamps. My employer asked for the card back, made charges on the card, and defaulted on the payment of the card. 2 years later i get a call from a collector stating that i am liable for the debt. They have already pulled my credit and are saying that this may go on my credit report and destroy my perfect credit. Can they do this or is this just a deperate attempt to recover the money owned by the company?

well u need to have a letter stating your termination date and proof that u handed the card back to ur boss. that should be good enough

Hindsight is 20/20 but unfortunately if you signed for that card and your SSN was used then, yes, you are liable! The smartest thing to do was cancel that card when you gave it back to him. There was no reason for a terminated employee to still have an active card.

There may also be fraud or identity thefy on the employers part. I would definitely file a police report and take him to small claims court over this matter to attempt to retrieve some of the money back. Good Luck!
